Dr. Dog And Saint Rich Cover One Another On Split EP

Philadelphia band Dr. Dog and New Jersey duo Saint Rich have teamed for both an extensive US tour and a very special collaborative recording. The two have released a four song EP together via the free download site Noise Trade.

The EP contains four tracks. Each band covered the other and there is a song from each respective band's own record. Dr Dog recorded a version of Saint Rich’s song “Dreams” from their record Beyond the Drone. Saint Rich in turn interpreted the song “Rock & Roll” from Dr Dog’s album B-Room. In addition the EP contains Dr Dog's “Phenomenon” from B-Room and Saint Rich's “Crying From the Home” from Beyond the Drone.

Dr. Dog's Zach Miller explains the band's unique process on their cover, “Every track was recorded in a different state. We didn't have a lot of time to get together on this one so we recorded our own tracks at home and sent them to Scott in Connecticut. Musically and creatively it was a challenging song to record because the melody and the chords felt fused together -- like there is a new chord on every note of the melody -- and it was tough to break away from that, especially being so isolated. But in the end it felt much more loose and laid back. Scott really worked some magic on the mix, too.”

Saint Rich’s "Delicate" Steve Marion explains their song selection and recording process, “It was the song we van-jammed the hardest on our last tour with Wild Belle. The vote was in: Rock and Roll. The lyrics of the song serve as an instruction manual for how to record the song. We started with "a Tascam, some Maxwells, a Shure 57 and a stereo delay" and ran wild with it.”

Dr. Dog are currently touring in support of their acclaimed new album B-Room, which All Music Guide called “a beautifully crafted slice of psych-pop goodness” and Under The Radar said “These tunes are ripe and ready for picking, the fruitful results of a band that grows infectious melodies by watering them with good instincts."
