Anti-Records is overjoyed to congratulate the legendary Booker T. Jones on a 2011 Grammy nomination for his album The Road From Memphis in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category. The supremely talented and immensely influential Jones has previously won three Grammy Awards, one for lifetime achievement, and was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
The Road From Memphis was produced by Jones with The Roots’ ?uestlove and Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliot Smith) The album’s title refers not only to Booker T’s journey but to the evolution of the soul sound he helped invent as it traveled from Memphis to Detroit, Philadelphia and beyond. This absolutely vital and soulful record features a broad range of guest vocalists including Matt Berninger of the National, Sharon Jones, Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket and Lou Reed.
Consequence Of Sound said of The Road From Memphis, “Like Miles Davis or Jimi Hendrix, Jones’ inner soul permeates through his instrument and his voice is unmistakable” while Popmatters raved, “to think the 66-year-old can continue to produce such unparalleled authentic, indescribably funky and unprecedented soulful rhythm and blues music in such a fashion is nothing short of astonishing.”
*The 54th Annual Grammy Awards show will take place on Sunday February 12th, 2012 and air exclusively on CBS.
