ROLLING STONE PREMIERES NEW VIDEO FROM THE COUP

New Album Sorry To Bother You Out October 30th

Rolling Stone is premiering a video from the highly anticipated new album by revolutionary musical collective The Coup. The record is called Sorry To Bother You and hits the street this October 30 via Anti- Records. The clip is for the record’s electrifying opening track “Magic Clap,” a kinetic burst of hip-hop infused soul driven by a relentless punk beat.  While the song possesses the rousing celebratory vibe of a classic radio hit, there is a more profound significance within the lyrics.

As the band’s renowned vocalist and songwriter Boots Riley explains, "The Magic Clap" is about a quantitative to qualitative leap, an imaginary sound that happens in the moment when thought turns to action. The last line of the song sums it up- "When we slap back, its the magic clap.”

The action packed video features the unapologetically insurgent band on the streets, performing and dealing with some all too lifelike threats.  As Riley tells it, “We made this video in my neighborhood in West Oakland. It's an absolutely true story based on the time I was apprehended by the FBI while performing, tortured and then Pam The Funkstress came and saved me. The bike I ride in the video is the one I get around Oakland on. The lyrics of this song reflect my desire to not simply write clever lyrics, but to write songs filled with passion. Everyone who watches this gets a free imaginary high five from me.”

Sorry To Bother You is an audacious new work by a truly visionary band. The tracks merge danceable beats, punk urgency and the astute social commentary of hip-hop to craft a refreshingly unique sound that draws from the past but never sounds anything but futuristic.
