6. “Birds” (feat. Sean Rowe) by Marketa Irglova - Supremely talented songstress Irglova (The Swell Season) has just released a stunning solo album called Anar. Here she pairs with powerful singer Sean Rowe for an exclusive version of the Neil Young song “Birds.”

7. “We Are All Teenagers” by Tim Fite - A distinctly original talent, called “one of rock ‘n’ roll’s most subversive renaissance men” Fite is about to release the best record of his career with Ain’t Ain’t Ain’t. You can preview this masterful work with his epic and heartfelt “We Are All Teenagers.”

8. “Tenere Taqhim Tossam” by Tinariwen - On their recent Grammy nominated album Tassili, the North African band returns to the essence of their art with the plaintive and soulful “Tenere Taqhim Tossam” featuring Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone of the band TV On The Radio.

9. “Hey Na Na” (feat. David Shaw from The Revivalists & Maggie Koerner) by Galactic - The festivities are rounded out in suitable fashion by Galactic with their appropriately celebratory and powerful carnival inspired “Hey Na Na” (feat. Galactic Celebrates The World's Biggest Party On 'Carnivale Electricos,' Out Feb 21

Call it Mardi Gras, or call it Carnivale. Galactic captures the modern vibrancy of this annual bacchanal - and blazes a trail to its future - on Carnivale Electricos, the group's most ambitious release to date, set for release on Mardi Gras Day, Feb 21, via Anti- Records. Over the course of thirteen tracks, Galactic explores the connections between the Mardi Gras in their native New Orleans and the mighty megacarnivals of Brazil, whisking listeners between neighborhoods and cultures on a parade of genres from blistering rock, hip hop and r&b, to samba, zydeco, jazz and of course, funk.

NOLA guests on the record span several generations and styles from Neville brothers Cyril and Ivan, to rappers Mannie Fresh and Mystikal (making one of his first recordings since being released from prison); from Big Chief Juan Pardo, one of the youngest Mardi Gras Indians, to the KIPP Renaissance High School Band, one of the city's most riotous marching bands.

Brazilian influences on the album are similarly diverse including a cover of the Sergio Mendes Carnivale classic "Magalenha" and Galactic's new composition, "Guero Bounce," which pairs Brazilian rhythms with a New Orleans Bounce beat. "Julou," named for the band's own off-the-grid Mardi Gras parade, is inspired by another popular Carnivale melody, while " O Côco da Galinha" features rising Rio samba star Moyseis Marques.

Galactic will tour the US extensively this winter and spring, headlining some of its largest venues to date, including a stop at NYC's Terminal 5 on Feb 25 for a show that will feature special guests Steel Pulse. Corey Glover (Living Colour) and Corey Henry (Rebirth Brass Band) will join the group as special guest vocalists, while openers on the tour will include Orgone and the Soul Rebels. Following the breakout critical success of their previous two albums From The Corner To The Block (2007), and Ya-Ka-May (2010), Carnivale Electricos represents an unparalleled cross-section of contemporary carnival music that required Galactic to draw on all the skills, stamina, and funk they deploy at their annual all-night Lundi Gras concerts, which like the band itself have become a NOLA institution. In the nearly two decades since the band began, they've performed or recorded with everyone from BB King and Jeff Beck to Jurassic 5 and The Roots, playing every major US festival along the way including Coachella, Austin City Limits, Outside Lands, Bonnaroo, and of course JazzFest.

ANTI Artists To Appear At 2011 Bonnaroo Festival

This year’s annual Bonnaroo Festival, happening from June 9th to June 12th in Manchester Tennessee, is shaping up to be one of the best ever. The festivities helped, in part, by an eclectic and consistently soulful collection of artists recording on the Anti Records label that include Mavis Staples, DeVotchKa, Man Man and Galactic.

Mavis Staples recent Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) produced album You Are Not Alone was called “Gorgeous” by Time Magazine and “Inspired” by Spin. A Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner, and listed by Rolling Stone as one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, the legendary soul and gospel artist is currently in the midst of a stunning creative resurgence. The Chicago Tribune described a recent Staples’ live show as "a ferocious, bring-it-on performance… downright fierce."

DeVotchKa has melded influences – from Eastern European wedding bands to Norteño ballads – into an authentic and totally original blend of popular music. Their latest album 100 Lovers offers a collection of haunting and heartfelt stories delivered with enigmatic lyrics and cinematic soundscapes. The LA Times said of the record, "This sonically, musically and conceptually expansive album doesn’t need a release date so much as a big-screen premiere." NPR called 100 Lovers "Moody and triumphant at the same time” while Relix describes it simply as "exhilarating."

Galactic Announces 2011 Winter Tour

New Orleans funk n' soul powerhouse Galactic have announced an incredible run of dates that will include special guests for a wild and rocking Winter Tour 2011 traveling from East to West Coast with many stops in between. Galactic will spread the New Orleans flavor and Mardi Gras spirit starting in February before making their way out west for a big finish in San Francisco on April 1st and 2nd at the Fillmore with John Brown's Body supporting.

Corey Glover (lead singer of Living Colour) will join the band on tour for the first time, bringing his amazing vocals for the first few weeks of the tour including Atlanta on February 12th, Chicago on Feb 18th , and Cleveland on the 19th. Cyril Neville (of the Neville Brothers) will join Galactic for select dates and Corey Henry (of the legendary New Orleans Rebirth Brass Band) will be on board throughout bringing his real deal NOLA brass trombone sound to the party.

Corey Glover and Cyril Neville will BOTH join along with the High and Mighty Brass Band plus a VERY special surprise guest on the NYC show at Terminal 5 for a Mardi Gras North celebration on February 26th. John Brown's Body, Orgone and The Bridge will also support select dates throughout.

Galactic Podcast Offers Tour Of New Orleans

GALACTIC’s latest album Ya-Ka-May offers an exciting and exotic musical journey into a modern day New Orleans as experienced by those who live there. In anticipation of the band’s upcoming appearance at the storied New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, GALACTIC are giving friends and fans a personal off the beaten path guide to their beloved hometown of New Orleans. GALACTIC will be performing at the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on May 1st. For this special hometown celebration the band will be joined on stage by soul legend Irma Thomas along with renowned New Orleans musicians Cyril Neville and Corey Henry.

The band will also make an appearance on the riveting new HBO show “Treme” this coming Sunday April 18. The series, by the brilliant creators of the The Wire, focuses on life in New Orleans three months after Hurricane Katrina as residents try to rebuild their lives, homes and musical culture.

Think of this as a mix tape, like one of those cassettes you sweated over in college to slip to that special someone in your Mass Communications class. That batch of songs that was uniquely you, that would open your murky soul to the broad light of day, and let all see how complex and tortured you really were. These 15 songs unveil the murky soul of ANTI- Records to an unsuspecting and largely unprepared public (just like that college mixtape), and it turns out to be darker and danker than anyone suspected.

Take Roky Erickson, an artist who has done his own share of soul searching, recording with Okkervil River, and his contribution "Goodbye Sweet Dreams" - a haunted cry from the heart, with Roky repeating the lines over and over like some obsessed anti-hero from Dostoevsky. Then there's Bettye LaVette's searing reading of the Rolling Stones' "Salt of the Earth," peering in at the grimy window of the "stay-at-home voter" and the rest of the downtrodden, in lyrics that sound more current today than they did in 1969. New signing Lost In the Trees, musical savants from North Carolina, wrap the saddest story you've ever heard in aching melody and surging strings, everything you'd hope for in a song titled "All Alone In an Empty House." And house dissident Sage Francis offers "Slow Man," with music written for Sage by Calexico - a meditation on the artist's belief that "there's no shame in being a dinosaur with an analog heart, a strained spirit and a photo-book filled with senior moments."

These four songs aren't available elsewhere; they are glimpses at farm-fresh, still-in-the-crate, upcoming releases. And the rest of the tracks are all from brand new or recent releases, from our larger stable of ANTI- heroes . How can we do it, you ask? Galactic Announces Festival Dates and Red Rocks Concert

Galactic will be taking their raucous New Orleans dance party back out on the road in continued celebration of their critically acclaimed new album Ya-Ka-May. This time the genre defying outfit will be bringing their intoxicating revelry to cities across the Midwest and South as well as two of the most anticipated music festivals of the year. And on July 3rd, for the very first time Galactic will be headlining a historic Independence Day Weekend show at Colorado’s famed Red Rock’s Amphitheater with prog-rock sensations Umphrey's McGee and the reggae legends The Wailers. For this extraordinary show, Galactic and Umphrey's McGee will allow fans to celebrate their freedom of choice by voting for a song which both bands will then play together. And on Saturday May 1st the band will return home to play the legendary New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on a night featuring Pearl Jam, Band of Horses, the Rebirth Brass Band, Ya-Ka-May guest vocalist Allen Toussaint and more.

Then in June Galactic will travel to Manchester Tennessee for the popular Bonnaroo Festival where the band has become an annual crowd favorite. City Beat Cincinnati said of last year’s performance: “Galactic is a band that knows Bonnaroo, knows the crowd they play to and knows how to rock a festival set. With the addition of Trombone Shorty, Galactic added even more firepower to an already loaded arsenal and completely melted the sweaty masses down to a pulp... the faithful resounded with thunderous applause.”

The band is also scheduled to appear as themselves on an upcoming episode of the new HBO series "Treme." The series centers on life in New Orleans just after Hurricane Katrina and was created by the same people who brought you the masterpiece that was “The Wire.” Galactic will be performing the traditional song “Baker’s Dozen” on the show.
