BAND TO APPEAR ON CONAN O'BRIEN MAY 19

U.S. Headlining Tour in Support of A Mad and Faithful Telling Kicks Off Today

National Public Radio's acclaimed music program "All Songs Considered" will be at the DeVotchKa show on May 16th at the venerable 9:30 Club in Washington DC and will broadcast live from the concert.

DeVotchKa is also scheduled to perform on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on May 19th. The appearance marks the Denver quartet's U.S. late night television debut.

DeVotchKa, previously best-known for creating the score and soundtrack for 2006's hit film Little Miss Sunshine, are currently riding high on the overwhelming praise for their latest, A Mad and Faithful Telling.

After completing a trek across Europe that included an appearance on the BBC's "Later with Jools Holland," DeVotchKa are set to take their beautifully enacted, emotionally stirring show on the road. The Mad and Faithful Tour kicked off on Saturday with a set at the famed Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival, and continues tonight in San Francisco.

DeVotchKa to perform on BBC's Later... with Jools Holland on April 15

The acclaimed American band DeVotchKa will be performing on BBC 2’s "Later … With Jools Holland" TV show on Tuesday 15th April at 10.00pm (live show) and Friday 18th April at 11.35pm.

DeVotchKa - "leading the charge of Eastern Bloc indie pop" according to Word Magazine - is a four piece multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble fusing Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, and Mariachi music with American punk and folk roots. The band received a 2006 Grammy Award nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for their contribution to the soundtrack of the enormously applauded independent movie "Little Miss Sunshine".

Their new album "A Mad and Faithful Telling", released through ANTI records - home of such notables as Tom Waits, Neko Case and Mavis Staples – on March 17th, has received rave reviews in the British Music Press. Uncut called the record "Splendid, demented folk. Riddled with great tunes and gorgeous lachrymose ballads, granting the album a 4/5, while The Observer stated that "the band deliver these exultant, extraordinary songs, ... rousing , majestic, they seem to have been here forever, just waiting to be heard." giving the album a 5/5.

The Guardian called the songs "epic and emotional" 4/5 and NME warned the audience about being "hopelessly DeVotchKa’d on the first listen", granting the album an 8/10.

Austin, TX — Singer Nick Urata founded DeVotchKa nine years ago with the idea of mixing together the music of east and west. He did not found it with the hopes of selling music to McDonald's. The band turned down a request to use one of their songs in the fast-food giant's commercials.

With their sixth new CD A Mad and Faithful Telling, DeVotchKa is poised to capitalize on the popularity they earned by being featured on the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack.

DeVotchKa have announced their largest American tour to date. Beginning at Coachella on April 26, the tour includes stops at San Francisco's Fillmore, The Vic in Chicago, and New York's Terminal 5. The group will be joined by a string quartet for the tour and the Cirque de Soleil style aerial acrobats-The Slavic Sisters -on certain dates. Basia Bulat will support the tour.

A Mad and Faithful Tour is in support of DeVotchka's A Mad and Faithful Telling set for release by Anti- on March 18. In a four-star review Spin calls the record "Cheerful, eclectic lunacy with a heart as big as the world."

DeVotchKa will make a number of appearances at Austin's SXSW in March. The group will be joined by the Tosca Strings and kick off KEXP's live broadcast from the event in addition to performances for Anti-, Billions, Filter Magazine, Minneapolis' KCMP, and Austin's KUT radio stations.

The group will return to Denver for an in-store at Denver's Twist and Shout on March 18 before heading to Europe for a three and a half week tour in April. More than a month and a half in advance Brussel's AB performance is sold out.

For the past decade DeVotchKA have been on a trailblazing singular career path waiting for the world to catch up to them. They have taken on theatres, festivals, and burlesque clubs alike, playing in the middle of the audience and transporting everyone to a more glamorous and dangerous place with a pioneering sound that renders geographic borders and time meaningless. Sousaphones, upright bass, tuba, bouzouki, theremins, mariachi horns, accordions, violins and a myriad of instruments can be found on all of the band's uncategorizable albums that meld indie rock with Eastern European and Mexican folk influences. In 2007, the world finally began catching up to DeVotchKa when the band's score for Little Miss Sunshine was nominated for a GRAMMY.

The band's first album of all new material since 2004's How it ends is everything a DeVotchKa record should be, an inimitable thrill full of adventurous melodies and heartbreaking beauty certain to bewitch everyone that hears it. "Basso Profundo" starts things off with its unpredictable tempo changes that foreshadow the adventure to come. "Comrade Z"s escalating violin and horn arrangements are certain to make your heart beat faster and defy you to stay still. "Transliterator" may be the indie rock song of 2008 with its heart-wrenching vocal melody and machine gun beat. The accordion and solemn strings of "Undone" will break hearts all around the globe.

DeVotchKa had set the bar high but they've managed to make the best album of their career. All of the disparate elements that make up this singular band benefit from the improved production. From beginning to end, the album manages to take you to a place infinitely more exciting and appealing than the every day, a place only DeVotchKa could have imagined.
