One Day As A Lion Announces First US Shows

The collaborative, experimental project One Day As A Lion, spearheaded by vocalist Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against The Machine) and drummer Jon Theodore (The Mars Volta), have announced their first US shows. The duo will be joined by Joey Karam (The Locust) on keyboard for shows in Pomona, CA on July 17 and in Los Angeles, CA on July 18 at undisclosed locations. Tickets go on sale Wednesday at 12:00PM PT and will be available via Will Call only. All ticket holders will be emailed the venue information at 8:00AM PT day of the show.

The performances mark the first time the project has ever performed live. One Day As A Lion released their self-titled five-track EP in 2008, which debuted in Billboard’s Top 40 and features the rock radio hit “Wild International.”

Nick and mates kicked off the year as Plug Impact Award honorees, and high profile nominations from the Q Awards and Mojo and two wins at the Austrailian Age awards (Best Band and Best Album) fueled the international recognition. Tim Fite Fair Ain 't Fair - Fair Ain't Fair is a collection of the most seasoned, reflective and charming work the genre-defying Tim Fite has ever produced. On it he growls about greed and avarice, topics manifest in last year's Over The Counter Culture (the acclaimed, free, web-only release which has topped 100,000 downloads this month), but told here with more empathy, more human-ness - perhaps signs of a deeply engaged artist growing up.

Xavier Rudd Dark Shades of Blue - dusky and cool, the album is more sober than any work Xav has ever done, though it should not be mistaken for temperate. Guitar-driven jams, mixed by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age), expand on a sound only hinted at on previous releases, and distortion often supplants the pretty jangly guitars heard on earlier work. The self-titled debut EP from One Day As A Lion, the on-going creative collaboration between Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore, hits stores today.

Ann Powers at the Los Angeles Times writes: “Theodore’s drumming is skittish and sharp, forming hostile tangles with De la Rocha’s lyrics, causing an itchy feeling instead of fist-pumping relief. And with no guitar — though plenty of keyboard that sounds like extremely distorted guitar — and no bass, this music hits higher in the body than most rock. The chaotic here-and-now of vintage Public Enemy is the obvious reference, along with minimalist punk.”

Anti- Records is pleased to announce the signing of One Day As A Lion. An on-going creative collaboration between two like-conscioused individuals, One Day As A Lion will release their eponymous debut EP worldwide on July 22nd.

The band writes:

“One Day As A Lion is both a warning delivered and a promise kept.”

“A defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask. One Day As A Lion is a recorded interaction between Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore from Los Angeles, California.”

“The name taken from the infamous 1970 black and white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: ‘It’s better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb.’ This record is a stripped down attempt to realize this sentiment in sound.”
