Dr. Dog's New Album 'Be The Void' Out Today`

Celebrated rock ‘n’ roll band Dr. Dog have released their greatly anticipated new album Be The Void today. This time around the band turns up the guitars and delivers a truly great cathartic rock ‘n’ roll album played with near reckless abandon.

Be The Void combines the group’s meticulously crafted pop with a far leaner and meaner primal sound which perfectly captures the rough and tumble energy of their renowned live show. The Philadelphia band entered the studio with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and confidence. “It was reminiscent of when we were starting out and were these fearless weirdoes in a basement, so confident and reckless and bold,” guitarist-vocalist Scott McMicken adds. “It was really liberating.”

Rollingstone.com is premiering a brand new Dr. Dog video today for their song “That Old Black Hole” from the band’s anticipated upcoming album Be The Void. The clip was directed by George Salisbury who is renowned for his cinematic work with The Flaming Lips (Christmas On Mars, Watching The Planets, Stardeath and White Dwarfs – Borderline) . Beloved Philadelphia band Dr. Dog are poised to release a staggering burst of vital rock ‘n’ roll with their new record Be The Void. The album hits stores this February 7th via Anti-Records and is the raucous follow up to the group’s critically lauded Shame, Shame.

While the band’s previous records boasted meticulously crafted symphonic pop, this time around the band turns up the guitars and delivers a truly great cathartic rock ‘n’ roll album played with near reckless abandon and passion.

With the addition of new drummer Eric Slick and electronics-percussionist-guitarist Dimitri Manos, the band entered the studio (Meth Beach) with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and confidence, tracking the songs live to perfectly capture the rough and tumble energy of their renowned live show.

“We would just get in the pocket and go with it because it sounded great,” bassist-vocalist Toby Leaman explains. “There wasn’t this endless deliberating. We just went with our gut feelings on things.”

“It was reminiscent of when we were starting out and were these fearless weirdoes in a basement, so confident and reckless and bold,” guitarist-vocalist Scott McMicken adds. “It was really liberating.”

The songs on Be The Void flawlessly combine Dr. Dog’s adventuresome and expansive arrangements with a far leaner and meaner primal sound. The beats are harder, the guitars louder and edged with a warm distortion. “Guitars stopped being problematic and started becoming very exciting to us,” McMicken explains.

From the rollicking re-imagined blues of the disc’s opening track to the searing guitars of “Vampire,” the frenetic punk urgency of “Over Here Over There” and the beautifully fuzzed out rock of “Warrior Man,” Dr. Dog’s Be The Void is a truly great rock ‘n’ roll record and the unmistakable sound of a band whose moment has arrived.

Dr. Dog Release Black Friday 7 Inch

Dr. Dog will be releasing a special two song 7 inch to commemorate Record Store Day’s new celebration of Black Friday this year. As an incentive to get people into local independent record stores the day after Thanksgiving, the celebrated Philadelphia band is offering two brand new songs, “Control Yourself” and the fuzzed out “Warrior Man.”

Dr. Dog has a long DIY history, from designing and building their own stage sets to silk screening tee shirts in parking lots while on tour. This latest venture continues that hands on tradition with the single coming encased in artwork created specifically by the band, photocopied and then packaged by the musicians themselves.

Dr. Dog’s Scott McMicken commented, "There's something enjoyable about being able to make this stuff or put it together, just being involved with it in that way is very satisfying."

Dr. Dog Announce North American Tour Dates

Beloved symphonic rock ‘n’ roll band Dr. Dog is hitting the road for a series of North American tour dates in the coming months. The band will kick things off with three nights sharing a bill with none other than Bright Eyes before steering their merry bus to selected theaters and ballroom across the country. With their ever-evolving sound and supreme love of performing, the band has crafted a psychedelic infused modern rock show unlike any other.

The band is currently in a Philadelphia studio recording a new full length album. The record, an anticipated follow up to the band’s breakout release Shame Shame, will be in stores early 2012.

170 Million Americans for Public Broadcasting and ANTI- Records are pleased to announce the release of Raise Your Voice!, a 16-track compilation of music from ANTI- artists being offered as a free download to advocates for public broadcasting. Anyone who signs up to join the campaign can download the compilation -- available for a limited time only -- by visiting RYVoice.org. Supporters will also have the opportunity to share Raise Your Voice! with their friends and social networks.

Public broadcasting offers millions of hours of free music, arts and cultural programming to American audiences, thanks in part to federal funding. From national music programs such as public television’s Austin City Limits and public radio’s Mountain Stage to the diverse local programming on public radio music stations throughout the country, public broadcasting is a vital part of our nation’s musical landscape.

Public radio preserves American culture and is one of the only places left where uniquely American music -- jazz, rock, bluegrass and classical -- can be heard by a mass audience. Public radio stations around the country play an important role in the music economy and have created a valuable partnership that connects audiences to music, and all those who devote their lives to it—performers, singer-songwriters, musicians, lyricists and composers. More than 100 local public radio stations broadcast full-time music and hundreds more include music as part of their programming lineups.

While the average station gets the majority of its funding from listeners, underwriters and other local sources, federal funding helps close the gap and keep many small and rural stations on the air. Without federal funding these stations could go dark and the platform that they’ve provided for so many musicians could go with it.

“We are thrilled to offer Raise Your Voice! to our advocates,” said Jeff Nelson, co-director , 170 Million Americans for Public Broadcasting. “It is critical that we raise awareness about the importance of public broadcasting to music in America as we make our case to Congress to maintain federal funding for local stations across the country. We are grateful to ANTI- and these fantastic artists for their generosity and for standing up in support for public broadcasting.”

Ari Picker, frontman for ANTI- band Lost in the Trees added, “Our culture needs public broadcasting. And public radio has been an enormous resource for musicians like myself. I feel extremely privileged to donate our music to Raise Your Voice! to boost awareness about the need to protect public broadcasting in America.”

The website for Raise Your Voice! was created by Oniracom, a Santa Barbara-based audience marketing agency for music and entertainment.

About 170 Million Americans for Public Broadcasting

The 170 Million Americans for Public Broadcasting campaign is a collaboration of public radio and television stations, national organizations, producers, viewers and listeners throughout the country who understand the critical need for a strong public media in the United States. The campaign is co-managed by the Association of Public Television Stations and American Public Media on behalf of more than 400 station partners. The centerpieces of the effort are its website, 170MillionAmericans.org, Facebook page, Facebook.com/170Million, and Twitter feed at http://twitter.com/#!/170million,that give supporters of public media a way to take action in support of their local public radio and television stations.

About ANTI-Records

Epitaph Records was founded in 1981 by Brett Gurewitz of the influential punk rock band Bad Religion.
