The Georgia native was recently touted "a national treasure" by colleague, friend and former Chicago neighbor, Andrew Bird. On her new album Hogan utilizes her incredible voice to interpret compositions penned for her by musical luminaries including M. Ward, Vic Chesnutt, Magnetic Fields, John Wesley Harding, Robyn Hitchcock and more.

Hogan is backed on the album by an all-star band consisting of R&B legends Booker T. Jones and James Gadson (Bill Withers, Beck) as well as talented young lions Gabe Roth (of Daptone Records, the Dap-Kings) and Scott Ligon.

Early Acclaim for I Like To Keep Myself In Pain:

"A beguiling vocalist who can flawlessly execute soul, country, and pop, .... her pealing alto has never sounded better, and she has honed an impeccable mix of sensuality and heartfelt soulfulness that recalls Dusty Springfield." - Chicago Magazine

"I Like to Keep Myself in Pain" works as both a career summing up and a fascinating introduction to one of the most accomplished, underappreciated vocalists of the last two decades." - Chicago Tribune

"Few contemporary singers move as easily between soul and country music as Kelly Hogan, she also has a great talent for straddling pathos and humor. On I Like To Keep Myself In Pain, she puts herself into a collection of modern songs that's so diverse I can hardly think of anyone else who could persuasively tackle them all." - Chicago Reader

"The real standouts are 'Daddy's Little Girl', in which M Ward puts her inside the head of Frank Sinatra and the Jack Pendarvis-Andrew Bird collaboration 'We Can't Have Nice Things' which places Hogan's honeysuckle voice at the intersection of country, soul and '60s pop, where this gifted song interpreter resides " - Uncut

"Kelly Hogan's voice is like the dancing flame of a torch singer nipping at the heels of a honky-tonk angel" - Creative Loafing

"Hogan not only shows her vocal power and diversity, swinging from giddy '60s girl-group pop to weepy old-school country and from sultry soul to gritty rock, she proves that her biggest strength is in the lost art of interpretation, finding deeper and sometimes unexpected meanings in the tunes she sings, and making us feel every note." - Jim DeRotatis, WBEZ.org

Hogan will be touring throughout the summer in support of her new album, playing shows with Glen Hansard, Neko Case, Wilco and Andrew Bird.
