Andy Shauf Celebrates The Party
The anticipated new album by singer-songwriter Andy Shauf is now available.
The album, entitled The Party, is an extraordinary merging of sumptuous pop and poignant lyrical narratives that was recently described by The Independent as a “baroque-pop exercise with echoes of Seventies smarties like Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman and Steely Dan, though rather more empathetic than them.”
To kick off the celebration, Shauf just performed an NPR Tiny Desk Concert which you can watch here:NPR Tiny Desk Concert
With The Party, the Saskatchewan-based Shauf masterfully creates a cast of memorable and unique characters all set to ornate arrangements of fuzzed-out guitars, string sections, clarinets and dreamy synths, all draped over delicate piano, acoustic guitars and rainy-day drums. The album was recorded with Shauf playing all the instruments with the exception of string arrangements.
Andy Shauf is currently on tour in Europe and will be opening for case/lang/veirs in the US on their anticipated tour this summer.
Early Acclaim For The Party:
“There’s a case to be made for Shauf being one of the single most promising voices to emerge from Canada in recent memory. “ – Flood Magazine
“The Party conceals killer lyrics in music of extraordinary beauty and lushness." – Sunday Times
“The Party charms and troubles, playing like the soundtrack to a particularly devastating film noir. Shauf brings the same mentality to pop music as the songwriting greats of the '60s and '70s did, with gorgeous instrumentation, subtle arrangements and an all-round organic feel. Paired with his very human and humanizing lyrics, The Party is relatable and honest, simply marvellous.” - Exclaim
“It’s a lovely, luxuriant thing that you should hear.” – Stereogum
“It basically sounds like Elliott Smith come back to life. In the 70's. It's... incredible. - IndieShuffle
