Josiah Johnson Shares Intimate New Track "You Had One Job”
San Francisco’s Josiah Johnson continues to mine deeply personal experiences for new music. Today he has shared the new song “You Had One Job,” which details the thought process of trying to find something or someone to blame when you’re trying to make sense of a difficult experience.
"Musically, when I wrote the first parts, I was feeling very alien and numb and, simultaneously, very tender,” Johnson said. “The side by side of the manipulated digital voice and the wispy falsetto together felt like they held both the weight I was carrying and the tendril of hope spiraling gently skyward. The structure of the song, in three parts, feels to me like the arc of moving big emotions. It's a very cathartic song for me, and a great one to play live."
“I can be empowered in making it better for myself now and for the people who come after me,” he added, “but I can't go back in time or live in the past.”
In May Johnson released a similarly heartbreaking track called “Warm,” which was written over multiple years of dating his partner, cheating on them and then trying to repair the relationship. Reminiscent of early Bon Iver and Iron & Wine, listen to “Warm” here - https://youtu.be/r3xLke6kH0k
