Tom Waits and Keith Richards New Recording of “Shenandoah” Premieres on NPR’s All Songs Considered

NPR’s All Songs Considered is premiering Tom Waits’ and Keith Richards’ new recording of “Shenandoah” today. The hymn like ballad is streaming at http://n.pr/V8TDt1 and is the first track available from the upcoming 2-disc compilation, Son of Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys produced by Hal Willner. Notes Willner, "Each time I have managed to maneuver Waits and Richards into a studio over the last 25 years or so, it always results in one for the history books. With 'Shenandoah' they collaborate and there is no word in the English language to describe it...as good as music gets."

The ballad has a storied lore, first believed to have been sung by Missouri River boatmen before making its way to the sea and popularity in the 1880’s.

The entire 2-disc compilation will be released February 19th on Anti Records. Its 36 songs features an eclectic array of performers including; Shane Macgowan, Patty Smith, Iggy Pop, Macy Gray, Michael Stipe, Courtney Love, Chuck E. Weiss, Marianne Faithfull and Executive Producer, Johnny Depp.
