DeVotchKa Premieres "100 Other Lovers" Video At Spinner.com
AOL Spinner premiered a beautiful and moving new video from acclaimed romantic rock band DeVotchKa this week. The highly atmospheric clip is for the song "100 Other Lovers" from the celebrated group's new album 100 Lovers due out March 1st via Anti-Records. The video was directed by the immensely creative animator and designer Chloe Rodham.
"The music of DeVotchKa is incredibly inspirational," director Rodham explains. "I wanted the design and technique of the video to reflect the quirky style of the music, with an eclectic mix of influences. Overall the styling has an Eastern European feel, I wanted the piece to hint at a foreign location, as well as drawing you in with the faded grandeur of the ornate birdcages creating a dark, yet magical atmosphere. Despite these cheerful, romanticised visuals, the film hints at the bittersweet nature of love, which prevails throughout the music."

The band's upcoming album 100 Lovers was recorded in the Arizona desert under the guidance of producer Craig Schumacher (Calexico, Neko Case) with guest percussions from Mauro Refosco of Thom Yorke's band Atoms For Peace, and members of Calexico. The resulting songs reveal the group at the height of the creative powers, merging an eclectic mix of sounds and styles to create an impassioned work which is distinctly DeVotchKa. The band will embark on a series of North American dates in support of the new album beginning this March.
