Tinariwen Captivate On Colbert Report
The celebrated North African "Touareg" band Tinariwen made their national television debut last night with a captivating and triumphant appearance on the immensely popular satirical comedy show The Colbert Report. Band members, along with friends and collaborators Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone of TV On The Radio, fielded typically pointed and humorous questions from host Stephen Colbert on topics ranging from contemporary music to their war torn homeland.
Tinariwen then performed an intensely soulful version of the popular song "Tenere Taggim Tossam" from the group's heralded new album Tassili, joined on stage by Adebimpe and Malone.
On Tassili the renowned band refined their unique hypnotic sound, recording in the Algerian desert with contributions by Adebimpe and Malone and later from guitar virtuoso Nels Cline (Wilco) and the horns of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
