Son Little's New EP "Things I Forgot" Out Now

The new EP by cross genre soul explorer Son Little is out today. Things I Forgot is the first long-form release from the artist who inventively merges soul, blues, hip-hop, acid rock and more into an exhilarating and provocative new sound. GQ recently proclaimed, “his voice is so warm and soulful, like a combination of Little Willie John and Bob Marley, that it makes you slow down and listen. This is soul music for the hip-hop generation. It gives me hope for the future of music.”

Things I Forgot recently premiered care of The New York Times Press Play. A previous live performance at CMJ inspired Times’ writer Jon Pareles to rave, "His band uses electronics to toss in the odd percussive loop or synthesizer swoop; his guitar playing is laconic but pointed; and his lyrics mingle existential fears with his blandishments… The music had roots, but wasn’t looking back.”

Coinciding with the EPs release, My Old Kentucky Blog is premiering a new video for the track “Alice.” As a beautifully raw amalgamation of garage punk and psychedelic soul plays, a singing Little descends into an expressionistically rendered mine shaft accompanied by a seductive and hard working co worker.

Little muses on both the song and clip,“Alice is a bowl of noodles. Noodling in the studio with the Mean; noodling at guitar center; noodling at home when I can't sleep. For a long time my homies and I tried to play it and we realized we were all hearing the one beat in a different place. That happens a lot. I think we have it figured out now. I finally decided to flesh it out a bit and then my boys Alec, Charlie and Nim came up with and executed this dope video concept. I don't know what else to say. Dallas rhymes with Alice?”

CRITICAL ACCLAIM FOR SON LITTLE:

"It's pure, heart-spilled-over-the-road soul.” - NME

“Son Little typifies the brilliant, modern-day soul revival and dovetails perfectly into the legacies of old and new soul troubadours like Sam Cooke, Aloe Blacc, Otis Redding, Bill Withers and Lee Fields.” - DJMAG.com

"Heartache never sounded this good.” - Vibe

“Bring to mind everything from late '60s, early '70s soul to early lovers rock reggae.” - Complex

“Son Little clearly studies, respects and loves the music that came before him. What happens next, though, is what makes him so appealing. There's not a self-conscious moment here, yet it's pop music at the core.” - NPR

“Whenever I’m asked to assign a genre to new music I’m falling in love with, I balk (“It’s just good. Shit, I don’t know. Go listen to it.”), but twist my arm, and I guess I’d call it meditative blues soul.” - AV Club

“Haunting soul cry” - Philadelphia Inquirer
